Seasonal Adjustment Courses

Many economic and business decisions are based on economic information in the form of time series. When analyzing the time series, it is a very common practice to identify and remove seasonal patterns to make the series easier to interpret. It is important for anyone involved with seasonally adjusted series to recognize and understand the various movements present in time series and to understand the various components of a time series (such as the trend) that are estimated during seasonal adjustment.

One of the benefits of using X-12-ARIMA for seasonal adjustment over its predecessors (X-11 and X-11-ARIMA) is the diagnostics available in X-12-ARIMA, so many of the courses have discussions of the diagnostics available. Both X-12-ARIMA and TRAMO/SEATS use regARIMA models for preadjustment of some factors and for forecasting, so we also have a regARIMA modeling class available.

The courses target a broad audience: statisticians, economists, analysts, managers, decision/policy makers, or any one else interested or involved in seasonal adjustment. The content of the courses ranges from basic, non-technical courses to more advanced or specialized courses on seasonal adjustment methods and theory.

Currently Available Courses

We have five basic core modules (more information on the individual modules available here) that can be combined to form a variety of courses to meet a variety of needs ranging from courses for managers to expert seasonal adjusters. The courses can be combined in several ways. Some examples are given below.
